Guilt isn't what it used to be! Most of us now think of guilt as being a negative thing - we feel guilty about feeling guilty! But a sense of guilt about things that we have done wrong is not always bad. It might lead us to put things right. It might lead us to say sorry. Best of all, it might lead us to hear the person we have hurt - because having hurt others is the most important sort of guilt - say that we are forgiven. An important part of the Christian life and worship is about saying sorry and, eqaully important, hearing the message that God has forgiven us. There is no room for papering over the cracks and pretending everything is OK when we know that it is not. But nor is there any room for wallowing in guilt when the message of Jesus is that God loves us so much that we can be forgiven whatever we have done.
