Spirituality is a growth industry. In Bracknell's biggest bookshop there are five stands of books dealing with everything from crystals to divination and the occult. But 'religion' is on the other side of the store, classified with philosophy in a single stand, as though it had nothing to do with spirituality.
In reality the world's religions (including Christianity) have been the natural homes for most people exploring the spiritual life over thousands of years. To ignore them is like a history of popular music which does not mention The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan.
great guides
Christian spiritual guides include such diverse people as
- St Francis with his emphasis on simplicity of life and finding God in creation
- St Ignatius of Loyola whose 'guided journeys' have transformed the lives of the hundreds of thousands who have made them
- Martin Luther King who showed how God was to be found in the pursuit of justice and peace
